Que tiemblen los lectores de vídeo: Wii-VD :) :)

August 13, 2008 - Prior to its launch in 2006, when Nintendo confirmed that the Wii would not incorporate DVD playback, gamers and industry professionals everywhere joined in a universal sigh. A seemingly counter-intuitive move, but the lack of DVD playback wasn't enough to stop some particularly determined Wii owners. Hell-bent on righting Nintendo's wrong, users dumped mod chips via complicated install procedures in order to obtain the absent feature. The various modding alternatives circulated on the web for months, but now a comparably simple method has surfaced that requires no additional hardware or tweaking.





It would seem that some enthusiastic programmers have been able to enable DVD playback by simply installing a homebrew channel on the Wii with an embedded libdi DVD access library file. From there, users can access a general media player titled MPlayer. The software can run on both modded and unmodded systems and can display media from SD cards and DVD discs.

While the development is certainly a far more time efficient way of getting DVD playback on a Wii, we still fail to realize the necessity. Even if altered to do so, the DVD playback on a Wii is more than likely inferior to watching a disc on other types of hardware.
