Coderguy's Top Projector Picks - Page 2 - AVS ForumThe pro-reviewers also don't talk about ghosting in 3D correctly, you must go read Zombie's thread for that. For instance, the Mits hc4000 actually has ONE of the best images I have ever seen at handling poorer sources or noise in bright scenes even under $5000, and some of the lowest lag for gaming, and is sharper than most projectors near its price. Btw I own a $3000+ JVC and have owned many projectors in the past 2 years. I just setup an Epson 5010 for a friend as well. As much as I love the JVC and Epson, the Mits handles poorer sources better, and this includes 1080p Netflix, only once I get to VUDU streaming levels or Bluray would I say my JVC can keep up with the Mits's cleaner processing (when not judging by contrast of course). I also preferred gaming on the Mits over the JVC, as well as sports. I no longer own the Mits, I own other projectors, they each have strengths and weaknesses. The Mits was just killer in some areas, even though it was cheap.
I am nit-picking, all projectors have issues, trust me on that one, that is why I have gone through so many different ones.
Cuando afirma estas barbaridades de que an algunas áreas su baratito ex-HC4000 se ventilaba a su
mucho más carito JVC RS45 seguro que debía de estar con unas copitas de más
Official JVC X30 / RS45 owner's thread! - Page 111 - AVS ForumI hear you, but it's still borderline IMHO, the lowest gain I'd personally do on the JVC is about 1.8 at 130". The issue is the JVC doesn't really have much of a torch mode (a little), so when the lamp starts to fade you just have no way of getting it bright. 1.4 gain probably work if he mounts it at closest throw and changes to LAMP high soon. He might be able to get a 2.35 High Power screen from Da-lite that big, might need it custom cut though. I've heard there are negative attributes to the BD screens and the HP is better especially for the price.
I've lost 40%+ of the brigtness at only 300 hours, at 18 feet back I am no longer able to keep the aperture closed even with a 2.4 gain HP screen (it's too dark) even only on a 106" screen. If I had 1.0 gain on this 106" screen, it would be bordering on too dim even the aperture open, I'd need to put the projector at closest throw and open the aperture, or go to lamp high. I am probably only getting 1.5 to 1.7 gain in my mounting setup, but I'm only on a 106" screen. Seems like a waste of JVC's native On/Off to run the projector witih the aperture fully open, mise well use another PJ at that point.
Even assuming my lamp is bad and he will not lose that much until 1000 hours, but I would still shoot for the max brightness possible.
Official JVC X30 / RS45 owner's thread! - Page 109 - AVS ForumThere is no visible improvement in contrast when moving lens shift that I can notice. It might be there, but it'd be hard to see. I doubt most assertions about ANSI contrast these days. There is room to play with lens shift and even in losing some convergence and it will still be sharp generally no matter what you do with the lens shift. I don't think any benefit to ANSI will help enough to matter, changing the IRIS is going to affect that a lot more than changing lens shift.
The JVC has sort of a textured look from a slightly more grainy image than some DLP's I've seen, but in a way I also like the textured look. The texture grain varies depending on how much you turn up the sharpness and NR. The amount it shows also varies depending on the quality of the source.A lumagen processor might improve it more. I don't think it's purely just the projector as much as it is just the way it does the processing of the image.
The bigger issue on the JVC's is just getting the GAMMA calibrated, probably why so many people claim ANSI contrast issues. So many projectors have such flat GAMMAS OOTB that most people don't even realize how lucky they are. Calibration software is partly to blame, it often shows you ZOOMED out tiny graphs of GAMMA making you think wow that's close enough, but GAMMA is one thing you need to really get spot on or at least balanced correctly. I mean even on my $800 Viewsonic, it has a perfect GAMMA curve OOTB with not a single adjustment but setting it to a preset. Same with the Mits hc4000, perfect gamma on the unit I had. Just having a perfectly flat gamma anywhere between 2.25 and 2.35 is a good start, 2.2 to 2.3 is my general target instead of 2.4 since I use the IRIS at -10 now. Alternatively, you can use bumps at 5 IRE to 25 IRE, and then again at 80 IRE to 95 IRE, as long as you do the bumps in the right directions.

4/13/12: My bulb blew after 500 hours. JVC is replacing it for free even though its been 4 months since I bought it. Bad news again about the standard RS hand grenade bulb but really good service. They have got to come with a bulb as good as their picture and service. The 3D even looks good when my RS45 is working..

Yup ..the other one exploded at less than 400 hours . First sign was a drastic dimming. The metal fin works more like a clip in a water hose. It looks to be designed to force or channel more air to the lamp.

4/16/12: I've lost 40%+ of the brightness at only 300 hours ... My buddy Craigjohn's RS55 just blew a bulb at 500 hours. He only got the PJ in January. He tells me that there have been 3-4 other guys on the RS55 thread with similar issues with dead bulbs around 500 hours. Now JVC says they are backordered and so is the aftermarket Diamond(?) bulb for JVC.
I hope this doesn't mean that we are all in for trouble in the near future... My RS45 has about 240 hours on it now. I only run low lamp 2D. I think most of the people with blown bulbs have used high lamp for 3D, which may be shortening lamp life.
Thoughts? Any more reports? (I looked back about a month in this thread)
