Despite the launch of the PlayStation 3 in Japan and the US being only days away, the console’s online solution remains to be relatively unknown for many gamers. While Microsoft’s Xbox Live service offers universal support for all titles in the same solid manner, Sony seems to be taking a more randomized and non-specific approach for their online connectivity.
Attempting to clear up some confusion is the producer behind launch title Resistance: Fall of Man, Dan Brooke, has recently spoken with industry website gamesindustry.biz on how accounts will be handled on the online network.
According to Brooke, while all games will not use Sony’s central friends and messaging service, all games will use the same login for online play. “Resistance uses the PlayStation online ID to sign into the game. There is no separate login for Resistance and the online ID you create will be the same you use for all titles."
Developer Insomniac Games has previously revealed that Resistance will not make use of Sony’s universal buddy system. Instead, players will construct their own list of friends that is unique to the game. The game will boost various other multiplayer features, that as support for clans and parties, as well as the inclusion of matchmaking and rankings.
